Nominations now open for 2020-21 Student Leadership Awards
DEADLINE EXTENDED TO FRIDAY, MARCH 19, 2021
Invitations for this event are extended to students, student organizations and advisors who are nominated for awards as well as WebsterLEADS certificate recipients and anyone who submitted an award nomination. Each academic year there are many opportunities to honor students and student organizations at the home campus for the work they have accomplished. The awards are given annually at the Student Leadership Awards ceremony in April. Award descriptions, deadlines and nomination forms are listed below. All nominees and nominators are invited to attend the ceremony.
These awards recognize individuals and student organizations at the Webster Groves main campus. Please contact your local campus for extended site recognition opportunities.
Individual Awards
Students must have been enrolled and in good academic and judicial standing during the 2020-21 academic year to be eligible for awards. Self-nominations will not be considered for individual awards.
In addition to specific award requirements, please also consider nominating candidates whose work aligns with the following Global Citizenship Program factors: Written Communication, Critical Thinking, Ethical Reasoning, Intercultural Competence, Knowledge, Oral Communication, and Quantitative Literacy.
The George Herbert Walker III Award for Leadership
The George Herbert Walker III Award for Leadership is awarded to an Undergraduate, graduating senior who has demonstrated the most significant combination of academic achievement and leadership during their student years at Webster University. By creating this award, the Board of Trustees encourages excellence by publicly acknowledging students who have demonstrated leadership and academic distinction. This award comes with a scholarship of approximately $2000.00.
Background: Bert Walker is a Life Trustee of the Webster University Board of Trustees.
He previously served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for five years during which
time the University made extraordinary progress. Upon his initial retirement from
the board's chairmanship, the Board of Trustees established an endowed fund to encourage
continuing excellence and achievement in the tradition of its namesake. In October
2007, former U.S. Ambassador Walker bestowed upon Webster a gift of $10 million to
benefit the School of Business and Technology.
2020-2021 Recipient: Patti Hayes & Sam Kruse
Capstone Award for Leadership - Minimum cumulative GPA 3.5
This five-pronged student leadership award indicates high achievements in the following
components: a) Cumulative GPA - 3.5 or greater b) significant extracurricular involvement
c) multi-departmental/organizational involvement d) community service, and e) positive
role model. This award is given to a graduating undergraduate.
2020-2021 Recipients: Austin Nation
Mark Govoni Emerging Leader Award - Minimum cumulative GPA 3.0
This award is given to first-year student with full-time status who must plan to return
in the fall. Contributions to extracurricular life, extracurricular involvement, and
display emerging leadership skills.
2020-2021 Recipient: Sara Hammeke
Campus Life Award - Minimum cumulative GPA 2.5
This award goes to the student who has made major contributions to campus social life and extracurricular activities through significant involvement in the programming efforts of student organizations and/or departments. This is also awarded for serving as a role model for other students.
2020-2021 Recipient: Megan Schramm
Campus Voice Award - Minimum cumulative GPA 2.5
This award highlights a student who has displayed creativity and innovation in bringing
issues to attention of the administration. The recipient will have made an impact
by addressing issues in an assertive, impactful, respectful and articulate manner.
2020-2021 Recipient: Sarah Hill
Global Citizen Award - Minimum cumulative GPA 2.5
This award recognizes demonstrated leadership in achieving the international mission of Webster University through promotion of international involvement and understanding. Such leadership is demonstrated by advancing institutional goals abroad or by highlighting advanced international perspectives at the Webster Groves campus.
2020-2021 Recipient: Honoka Takato
Outstanding Contributions to Student Government Association - Minimum cumulative GPA 2.5
This will be awarded to a student who is a current or former member of SGA. This should
recognizes that individuals contribution to student life and student organizations
through their work on Student Government Association.
2020-2021 Recipient: Michael Langston
Outstanding Leadership of a Student Organization - Minimum cumulative GPA 2.5
This recognizes a student organization member or officer of a well-organized, officially recognized student organization, which has improved over previous year under this persons leadership and/or fiscal management.
2020-2021 Recipient: Natalie Wagner (Delta Phi Epsilon - Gamma Zeta chapter)
Student Government Association Awards
The Student Government Association Outstanding Student Awards are presented to a Webster University Freshman, Sophomore and Junior who exemplify distinguished leadership on campus at Webster University and who has shared their talents in the classroom, with their academic department, campus organizations and/or alumni.
Nominations for these awards are only accepted from current students.

Outstanding Graduate Student Award
The Outstanding Graduate Student Award is presented annually to a graduating student from the Webster Groves campus who has made distinguished contributions to their Webster graduate program, the student body during enrollment at Webster University. To be eligible, the student must have completed 24 credit hours at Webster University, maintained at least a "B+" average, and have completed graduation requirements between June 1 and May 31 of the current academic year.

Organization Awards
Qualified nominees will have been recognized and registered student organizations during Fall 2019 and/or Spring 2020 semesters or (when appropriate) groups representing Campus Departments or Student Employment groups.
Outstanding New Student Organization (newly recognized within the past 18 months)
Recognizes a newly registered student organization that exhibited initiative in organizational development, established a positive presence within the University and/or in the surrounding community, and shows strong potential to contribute to the quality of campus life as a recognized student organization at Webster University.
2020-2021 Recipient: Webster University Pep Band
Outstanding Contributions to Campus Social Life
This is awarded to an organization that has sponsored or co-sponsored activities throughout
the year making a significant impact in the quality of campus social life.
2020-2021 Recipient: The Wonderful World
Outstanding Contributions to Cultural Awareness
This is awarded to an organization who has contributed to the increased awareness
of cultural and/or social issues on a campus-wide scale, either through a single event
or a series of events.
2020-2021 Recipient: no nominations submitted
Program of the Year
This is awarded to a group of students, student employees, departmentally sponsored student organizations or SGA recognized student organizations that have worked cohesively throughout the year for the successful achievement of a single program, series of programs or accomplishment of a departmental goal. Members of this group serve as role models for the rest of campus. This award will recognize the success of the specific program or programs hosted by this group.
2020-2021 Recipient: International Fashion Show (African Student Association & International Student Association)
Student Organization of the Year
This award recognizes a registered student organization for overall efforts to contribute
to the University community. The Student Organization of the Year is considered a
role model for other organizations on the campus. Presented at the annual Student
Leadership Awards ceremony in April, registered organizations active between March
1 of the prior year and February 28 of the current year may be considered.
2020-2021 Recipient: Delta Phi Epsilon - Gamma Zeta chapter
Criteria:
- Meaningful contribution to the Webster University community
- Work fulfills organization's mission
- Demonstrates variety in activities and events and collaborates effectively with other organizations
- Contributes to creating a vibrant campus community
- Demonstrates sound fiscal management
- Letter of support from the Organization Advisor
- List of all events with attendance from previous year
The Jacqueline Grennan Wexler Award for Humanitarianism and Servant Leadership (individual or group award)
Criteria: This award may be given to a group or individual at the Webster Groves Main Campus.
An individual recipient must have been enrolled at least one semester and hold junior,
senior or graduate student status; groups may be recognized student organizations,
employment groups, or otherwise affiliated groups of students at the Webster Groves
campus.
2020-2021 Recipient: Wafa Osman
Award Description: This award will recognize a student/group showing exemplary performance in:
- Servant Leadership and Humanitarianism.
- Servant Leadership: show demonstrated servant leadership, putting the needs of others first and helping people develop and perform as highly as possible.
- Humanitarianism: active engagement in promoting human welfare and social justice.
"I'm the First" The Ted Hoef Award for Leadership and Service
This award is presented to a first generation student who shows exemplary leadership and service to the Webster University Community and academic achievement. Given to a student who serves as a role model to others who are also first in their family to attend college.
2020-2021 Recipient: Dana Rue
Student Organization Advisor of the Year
Nominees must serve as the official advisor for a recognized student organization at Webster University and have demonstrated exceptional service to that group over the past academic year.
